The Katsina State Government ("we", "us", "our") operates the KRID platform. We are committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of all residents who use this platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA) and applicable Katsina State regulations.
2. Data We Collect
When you register with KRID, we collect the following categories of information: • Identity data: full name, date of birth, gender, National Identification Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN) • Contact data: phone number, email address • Location data: state, LGA, ward, residential address • Biometric data: facial image and liveness verification data captured during registration • Device and usage data: IP address, browser type, and activity logs for security and audit purposes
3. Purpose of Data Collection
We collect and process your personal data for the following purposes: • To verify your identity and prevent duplicate registrations • To generate and maintain your KRID resident identity record • To enable access to eligible government services and programs • To support fraud detection and prevention • To communicate with you about your account or services • To comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements
4. Legal Basis for Processing
Our legal bases for processing your personal data include: (a) performance of a public task carried out in the exercise of official authority vested in the Katsina State Government; (b) your explicit consent, particularly for biometric data; (c) compliance with legal obligations applicable to us under Nigerian federal and state law.
5. Biometric Data
Biometric data, including facial images and liveness verification records, is classified as sensitive personal data under the NDPA. We process this data only with your explicit consent, obtained during the registration process. This data is used solely for identity verification and fraud prevention and is stored with enhanced security controls. You may withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us, which will result in the suspension of your KRID record.
6. Data Sharing
We may share your data with: (a) Katsina State ministries, departments, and agencies where required to deliver public services you are eligible for; (b) federal agencies such as NIMC for NIN and BVN verification; (c) authorised service partners operating within the iKatsina digital infrastructure ecosystem under appropriate data sharing agreements; (d) law enforcement or regulatory authorities where required by law. We do not sell or share your personal data with commercial third parties for marketing purposes.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your KRID account is active and as required by applicable law. Biometric data is retained for the duration of your registration and may be deleted upon verified request. Audit and security logs are retained for a minimum period as required by Nigerian data protection regulations.
8. Your Rights
Under the NDPA, you have the following rights regarding your personal data: • Right of access — request a copy of your data • Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data • Right to erasure — request deletion of your data where legally permissible • Right to object — object to certain types of processing • Right to withdraw consent — for processing based on consent, including biometric data To exercise any of these rights, contact us at krid@ikatsina.ng.
9. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect your personal data against unauthorised access, loss, disclosure, or destruction. These include encryption, access controls, audit logging, and regular security assessments. However, no system can be completely secure, and you use the platform at your own risk.
10. Cookies and Tracking
KRID uses session cookies strictly necessary for platform functionality, including authentication and security. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-site tracking. The platform may use Google Translate for language assistance — please refer to Google's privacy policy for how they handle data in that context.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated via the platform or by direct notification. Continued use of the platform after any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
